The Berlin-based Deep Series imprint returns this February with a four track EP from Orazio Fantini, backed with a remix from Kindimmer.
Deep Series is a sub-label of Diaphan Music, and is the brainchild of George P. The label has welcomed the likes of Ekkohaus, Santos Reisak and Sek onto its roster and has continually delivered raw, organic house music of the highest quality, picking up the support along the way from Sascha Dive, Julietta and Federico Molinari. Canadian jazz enthusiast Orazio Fantini joins the roster here with his debut feature release.
The release opens with ‘B.A Nights’, a low-slung house cut employing loose, shuffling drums, warbling Rhodes chords and a smooth, bubbling bass hook. The track slowly blossoms with ethereal pad lines and setback atmospheric building tension, while a blend of cutting synth stabs further build the melodic movement.
Next up is ‘The Music’, picking up the pace slightly with an insistent energy, Fantini samples a warm pad line, as the initial driving force while introducing a mixture of piano hits, gritty bass hits and orchestral shots, all tightly infused melodically to create a profound depth and dynamism. Kindimmer steps up to the plate next to remix ‘The Music’, taking things a darker, more hypnotic direction, weighty drums run alongside the heavily side-chained originals pad line, the track builds with an insistent peak-time energy steadily progressing while sax licks, penetrating stabs and vocal snippets brilliantly meander around the rock-solid groove.
To close the release Fantini offers up ‘Take My Heart’, a perfect way to wind down the release. Veering things into NY house territory with stripped, swinging drums, soulful, emotive vocal lines and more intelligently crafted melodies in the synthesized elements, fluttering synth chords run alongside punchy bass stabs, bright one-shots and reversed sweeps. Fantini displays his proficient ability to create soulful house here once again.
Orazio Fantini’s ‘The Medium Raw’ is out on Deep Series 19th February 2013.
